Research is ongoing and the Institute is continually kept informed of, research projects in many parts of the world. Politically, particularly at European level, the Green Party are active supporters of research in the field of complementary medicine and have recently tabled an amendment to the Fifth Framework Programme for Research and Development. The amendment calls for research into non-conventional therapies considering their increasing contribution to general health.
Members are delegated each year to speak and represent the Institute internationally at conferences, seminars and research gatherings. The Irish Reflexologists' Institute Limited are members of and have liaison with, many reflexology organisations and with a number of countries throughout the world. Being members of the "International Council of Reflexology", the "Reflexology in Europe Network" they also have reciprocal arrangements with colleagues in the United Kingdom "The Association of Reflexologists". The Institute is, therefore, in an excellent position to be able to play a major role in international debates on reflexology and to benefit from the knowledge and current thinking of colleagues from many countries.
The Institute has recently come together with some other Irish complementary therapy groups to form the Federation of Irish Complementary Therapy Associations. The aim of this group is to work together for the promotion and recognition of complementary therapies in Ireland.
